About Yara Avonmouth

Yara Avonmouth has been involved in the production and distribution of fertilisers for over 60 years and plays a key role in Yara’s UK supply chain. Located in Avonmouth in the South West of England, near the city of Bristol, the site operates as an Upper Tier COMAH (Seveso) facility with a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

 

The 15‑acre site has bulk and bagged storage capacity and is equipped with modern bagging and blending capabilities, handling up to 120,000 tonnes per year. Operations currently run on a single day shift, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to operate 24/7 if required. With a small, highly skilled team, Avonmouth leverages cross‑training, modern equipment, and lean principles to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable operations.

 

We are now looking to strengthen our Avonmouth operations by recruiting a Production Operative to join the site team.

Purpose of the Role

To carry out all operational activities according to Yara policies, procedures and standards and in accordance with statutory HSE requirements in order to safely achieve the production demands of the terminal.

Responsibilities

HESQ:

  • Work in accordance with relevant legislation, company health & safety policy, Yara safety principles, golden rules and in line with company values.
  • With Safe by Choice in mind, consider your health and safety and that of those around you.
  • Fully participate in behavioural observations, safety walks, systematic inspections and have a high safety awareness to improve the safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safety equipment and work wear deemed necessary for the job or task.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the work area.
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents, environmental breaches, hazardous conditions or near-misses are reported immediately.
  • Participate fully in any incident or accident investigation as required.
  • Participate fully in the risk and COSHH assessment process, as and when required.
  • Understand and undertake any duties or responsibilities required under the site emergency procedure.

 

PRODUCTION:

  • Manufacture products following plant operating procedures in accordance with specifications to meet market demands.
  • Produce finished product that meets the high-quality standards of Yara in order to guarantee compliance with the fertilizer regulations and exceed customer expectation.
  • Movement of raw materials and finished products on site using heavy plant machinery - loading shovel, forklift truck.
  • Complete batch and stock recording associated with production and blending activities.
  • Operation of the blending and despatch systems.
  • Operation of product import, export, and storage activities. 
  • Work closely with the Analytical Laboratory confirming product specifications and product dilution requirements where required.

 

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

  • Participate fully in continuous improvement initiatives such as the LEAN to increase operational efficiency and promote safety awareness to improve the safety culture.
  • Participate and fully support all aspects of Terminal improvement through waste elimination, OEE and associated continuous improvement activities
  • Actively participate in the Asset Care programs
  • Conduct first line maintenance activities, in line with appropriate training, to ensure the reliability of production equipment
  • Participate and attend training as required and as identified in Development Plan on People Path

 

FERTILIZER INDUSTRY ASSURANCE SCHEME (FIAS)

  • Understand the requirements of the Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS) and ensure that relevant processes and procedures are developed and maintained to ensure compliance with the specific requirements of the Scheme which fall in area of responsibility.

Education, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Good standard of general education
  • Fork-lift truck and Loading shovel licence
  • Good knowledge of product storage, handling processes and equipment.
  • Good knowledge of plant and equipment maintenance requirements
  • Good team player and flexible approach.
  • Good knowledge of operating procedures, permit to work and safe systems of work.
  • Good knowledge of lean and asset care systems.
  • Good level of computer literacy.
