Deputy / Assistant Manager - Reliability & Planning

Yara Fertilizers India Pvt Ltd is a 100% subsidiary of Yara International ASA. Yara has supplied fertilizers as well as fertilizer raw materials to the Indian market for over two decades. With this acquisition Yara India’s scale of operation has grown significantly. 

Role & Responsibilities

Inspection & Mechanical Integrity Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute inspection activities for pressure vessels, reactors, columns, heat exchangers, piping systems, and storage tanks across Ammonia, Urea, and Utility plants.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and legal requirements related to pressure vessel inspections, piping thickness measurements, lifting tools & tackles inspections, and fitness-for-service assessments.
  • Review and interpret inspection and NDT data and recommend corrective, preventive, and life-extension actions.
  • Define inspection scope and support execution during plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and major maintenance activities.
  • Apply knowledge of welding engineering, welding metallurgy, corrosion mechanisms, and material degradation relevant to fertilizer plant services.
  • Prepare and review WPS, PQR, repair procedures, and metallurgical recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes and standards including API, ASME, IS, IBR, and other statutory requirements.

Condition Monitoring, Reliability & Process Safety

  • Plan, supervise, and evaluate advanced heat exchanger tube inspection techniques such as RFET, ECT, IRIS, and other specialized methods.
  • Review results of conventional and advanced NDT techniques including RT, UT, MPT, DPT, PMI, hardness testing, and other inspection methods, ensuring correct technique selection based on service conditions and equipment criticality.
  • Coordinate Condition Monitoring (CMC) activities including oil analysis, vibration monitoring, thermography, and machinery health assessments.
  • Review vibration analysis reports and support corrective actions; working proficiency in vibration analysis software is desirable.
  • Support machine rotor balancing activities to achieve acceptable vibration levels and reliable operation.
  • Support reliability improvement initiatives through trend analysis and failure data review.
  • Support and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements related to mechanical integrity.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), HAZOP, HIRA, safety audits, and Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) studies.

Leadership, Planning & Compliance

  • Lead and supervise inspection engineers, technicians, and contractor personnel involved in inspection, NDT, and CMC activities.
  • Carry out daily job and resource planning and ensure safe, quality execution of inspection works in line with plant safety standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, inspection documentation, statutory records, and maintain comprehensive inspection history.
  • Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, BOQs, and enquiry documents for inspection, NDT, and CMC-related contracts.
  • Coordinate with Purchase and Contracts departments for technical evaluation, procurement, and contract execution.
  • Support planning, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control related to inspection and reliability functions.
  • Ensure compliance with Integrated Management Systems (IMS) covering Quality, Environment, and Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements, including working familiarity with AERB guidelines related to radiography and radiation safety.

HESQ

  • Implement Safety and HESQ policies across inspection and CMC activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Integrated Management Systems (IMS) covering Quality, Environment, and OH&S.
  • Ensure timely response to health, safety, environmental incidents and compliance with audit recommendations.
  • Promote safety culture and arrange training for employees and contractor personnel.

Preferred Skills

  • Working knowledge of SAP (PM/MM modules preferred)
  • ASNT Level I / II certification in DPT, MPI, UT, or RT (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, P&IDs, datasheets, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Familiarity with engineering codes and standards including ASTM, ANSI, ASME, API, BIS, and IBR
  • Sound knowledge of engineering metallurgy, welding processes, WPS, and PQR
  • Knowledge of advanced inspection and NDT techniques for critical process equipment
  • Exposure to vibration analysis (Category / Level I or II) desirable
  • Proficient in computers and digital tools
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for analysis and reporting
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • English proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking (mandatory)
  • Hindi proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking (preferred)

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech/B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy from a recognized and reputable college/university. Consistent academic performance with a minimum of 60% marks in 10th, 12th, and B.Tech. 
  • Experience: The candidate should have 3 to 10 years of post-qualification experience in inspection, mechanical integrity, and condition monitoring in large continuous process industries. Prior experience in Ammonia–Urea fertilizer plants or similar petrochemical / refinery environments will be preferred.
