Yara Fertilizers India Pvt Ltd is a 100% subsidiary of Yara International ASA. Yara has supplied fertilizers as well as fertilizer raw materials to the Indian market for over two decades. Yara India has continuously strengthened its footprint in Western and Southern India by providing Crop nutrition solutions with combination of Premium products and Knowledge through unique Farmer centric approach.
Yara’s philosophy is to connect with thousands of farmers at the grass root level and has a strong commitment to serving the agriculture sector in India, thereby improving the livelihood of Indian farmer. To leverage on this and to expand into the northern & eastern geographies of India, Yara acquired Tata Chemicals’ 1.2 MN MT Urea plant in UP, Northern India. With this acquisition Yara India’s scale of operation has grown significantly.
Role & Responsibilities
Process Engineering & Plant Performance
- Apply chemical engineering principles, unit operations, and process calculations to support safe, efficient, and optimized operation of the Urea–Ammonia complex.
- Perform heat, mass, and energy balance calculations, including daily production and consumption balancing, and generate DPRs and operating data.
- Analyze plant performance, study assigned process issues, and recommend technically sound improvement actions.
- Generate and submit technical and operating data to statutory bodies, industry forums, and benchmarking agencies (e.g., FICC, FAI, IFA, PSI).
Plant Modifications, Safety Studies & Technical Evaluation
- Carry out basic engineering, techno-economic feasibility studies, and techno-commercial evaluations for plant modification and improvement projects.
- Plan and coordinate execution of approved modification jobs in line with defined procedures and quality requirements.
- Develop, review, and update PFDs, P&IDs, and related technical documents post-implementation of plant changes.
- Participate in and facilitate process safety studies such as HAZOP, HAZID, FTA, and HAZAN, and support closure of identified action items.
- Utilize process simulation tools (CHEMCAD, HYSYS) for process analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization.
Governance, Quality Systems & Knowledge Management
- Establish, implement, and maintain QMS and EHSMS processes and documentation within the Process Engineering function.
- Support internal and external process / technical audits and ensure timely closure of non-conformities in coordination with the HOD.
- Prepare departmental inputs for awards, benchmarking studies, and management reviews; track action items to closure.
- Participate in cross-functional teams, committees, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, including technology scanning and best-practice dissemination.
- Support preparation and monitoring of departmental revenue and capital budgets.
Preferred Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with ability to interpret plant data and convert insights into actionable recommendations.
- Good understanding of process safety principles and risk assessment methodologies.
- Proficiency in reading, developing, and maintaining engineering documents such as PFDs, P&IDs, and technical reports.
- Working knowledge of process simulation and modeling tools.
- Effective coordination and communication skills for cross-functional and multi-stakeholder interactions.
- Structured approach to documentation, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech/B.E.) in Chemical Engineering from a recognized and reputable college/university. Consistent academic performance with a minimum of 60% marks in 10th, 12th, and B.Tech.
- Experience: The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Exposure to Ammonia/Urea process units or continuous hydrocarbon processing facilities such as refineries, petrochemicals, or gas processing plants will be preferred.
