Area Maintenance Engineer

Responsibilities

The Area Maintenance Engineer is responsible for providing engineering expertise for troubleshooting problems, defining repair plans, and defining preventative maintenance strategies for their plant areas (Ammonia & Utilities/ Urea, UAN & Nitric and Load-out Facilities). Experience is required with all static mechanical equipment including heat exchangers, piping, pressure vessels, tanks, and structural materials.

  • Troubleshoot plant equipment problems to minimize plant down time, reduce maintenance expenses and increase equipment availability.

  • Create and contribute to plant reliability initiatives such as predictive and preventative maintenance programs, Root Cause Failure analysis, etc. to increase plant reliability and optimize maintenance costs.

  • Review critical spares inventory levels and spares philosophy for mechanical equipment.

  • Provide mechanical engineering input to capital projects and manage projects in their area of responsibilities.

  • Provide engineering inputs and research materials, specifications and procedures for equipment maintenance as required. This includes liaison with external vendors, Yara’s central technical support and specialty service companies.

  • Develop scope, support planning, preparation and scheduling and supervise outage and turnaround activities.

  • Attend and Cascade learnings and training from seminars, research, and Central Yara Meetings to Maintenance department.

  • Ensure Maintenance activities are completed in accordance with relevant codes and standards. Stay current on repair and operation technologies in liaison with license providers and technical experts.

  • Ensure engineering control (quality standards, code compliance, fit for use/ fit for service) for daily maintenance activities.

  • Develop and review Safe Work Procedures/ Critical Task Analysis/ Safe Job Analysis as and when required.

Education, Experience & Skill

  • Degree in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering with eligibility of registration as a professional engineer with APEGS.

  • 5+ years of experience in an industrial environment such as petrochemical, refinery or chemical plants in a maintenance environment.

  • Experience with piping and pressure vessel theory and application in the process industries, familiarity with governing codes. Exposure to failure analysis, root cause problem solving.

  • Excellent computer skills.

  • Well-developed organizational skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience delivering technical solutions in a group environment.

  • Technical report writing including Root Cause Analysis, Inspection Reports, Reliability improvement recommendations, etc.

  • Familiarity with CAD software and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). 

  • Candidate must be capable of interpreting engineering drawings and developing detailed engineering packages.

  • Knowledge of Engineering standards such as API, ASME, ASTM & Saskatchewan Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act is an asset.
