Senior Agronomist

About the Agronomic Recommendation and Tools team

Within the Agronomy and R&D unit (YARD), the Agronomic Recommendation & Tools team takes responsibility for the development of agronomic strategies and know-how for innovative crop management concepts and decision support systems. It scouts emerging technologies in global AgTech and develops tools and algorithms that enable data and science-driven decision making, both in professional and smallholder farming. Being responsible for the agronomic quality assurance of all offerings, the team works in close cooperation with Digital Ag Solutions (DAS) and the Agronomic network in Yara.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, prepare and validate agronomic content for digital tools supporting smallholder farmers to improve their crop management from planting to harvest.
  • Implement crop nutrition programs in Yara’s digital database (the Polaris Fertilizer Engine) and constantly review and update those nutrition programs in cooperation with country senior agronomists.
  • Gather Fertilizer engine demo results, conduct analysis and summarize results for Agronomic recommendation & tools management.
  • Take active part in validation (i.e. pre and post app launch) to ensure the fertilizer engine back-end aligns with the fertilizer calculator in the front-end app.
  • Provide agronomic content and guidance to the DAS team to make our solutions scientifically sound, practical and relevant for smallholder farmers.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with R&D partners to assist in knowledge generation and scientific validation.
  • Work closely with YARD and Scalable Agri-tech (SAT) teams to pre-validate and test in market prior to release.

Profile

  • Strong background in Agronomy and related sciences with a solid knowledge of crop production systems, with focus on tropical crops. Good understanding of traditional farming systems and challenges for smallholder farming.
  • Good knowledge of crop nutrition concepts and their practical implementation.
  • Some experience as Agronomic Advisor in a smallholder environment. Experience with Digital agriculture/farming and IT based decision support tools will be a strong asset.
  • Team player with strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate, respecting the diversity of opinions to create a diverse environment
  • Fluency in English (Additional languages is an asset)
