Senior Data Engineer

We are reducing agriculture’s global greenhouse gas emissions to improve the world we live in!

AGORO Carbon Alliance addresses a key global problem, the impact of agriculture’s global greenhouse gas emissions on our climate and the implementation of sustainable carbon capturing potential at farm. Our passion lies in solving a global crisis by working with our customers to bring about sustainable transformation of farming practices which is both economically viable for the grower and makes the world avoid a crisis.

A bit about the role

As a Senior Data Engineer within our Data Platform team, you and your team will be the lynchpin of our mission to bring about meaningful change to carbon farming capture.  You and your team will design, implement and evolve over time a foundation that is crucial to our success.  This foundation will include design, learn & implement pipelines which process, handle and store terabytes of remote sensing, machinery and climate data from around the globe, which will calculate carbon emissions, predict the effect of these practices on soil quality and much more.  You and your team will build, monitor and improve our machine learning systems to scale, grow and evolve as we grow.  This is a journey of discovery, there is much to learn but together, with you in our team, we can figure it out.

What you will be doing

  • You’ll figure out the nitty gritty of how we instrument, prioritize, and store data from internal & third-party sources, focusing on the ability to modularize the pipeline, facilitate reuse and ensure the integrity, quality and observability of our data environment.
  • Create, scale and manage the lifecycle of data pipelines and processes globally to ensure we are able to deliver on our mission: the transformation of farming practices through carbon sequestration in agriculture.
  • You will be a key member of the Data Science & Engineering practice – sharing knowledge and ensuring we are building an effective data environment which delivers on our mission, solving customers pain and transforming farming through sustainable agriculture.

What you will bring

  • Breadth of experience in solving problems & bringing value by having several years of experience working on big data projects using both adhoc, batch and streaming.
  • You are a seasoned expert in data extraction, transformation, and orchestrating data loading into databases, warehouses and lakes. As such, you will have excellent SQL & Python skills and hands on experience of consuming and producing APIs.  Database design is second nature, and you sometimes dream in python (we don’t judge).
  • You have some experience with one or more of: Apache Nifi, AWS Glue/Data Pipeline, Azure Datafactory, Apache Beam, Apache Airflow, StreamSets – we will leverage the expertise that has come before, so we can focus on bring real value for our customers.  We have an awesome stack – check it out: https://stackshare.io/agoro-at-yara/data-platform
  • A background in development and ability to code and debug code would be ideal – there’s a lot of challenges.
  • Experience working with remote sensing datasets e.g. satellite imagery is a nice-to-have

Why us?

  • You have the impact of building a start-up while having the secure backing of a 116 year-old financially stable, successful grown up. Yara's latest quarterly results show that we currently have USD 2.7 billion free cash flow, which has been stable for the past rolling 4 quarters.
  • Be a key member of a fully cross functional team, along with engineers, product managers and data scientists from around the globe.  You and your team define your own objectives, which align with your mission and the business strategy, shape your own roadmap and work to deliver value each and every step along the way
  • Be a key contributor in sustainable global change, reducing carbon emissions while financially supporting growers and enabling the global transformation of farming and its impact on the environment.
  • Support for personal development with internal knowledge sharing, Data Science/engineering, Agronomy, Software engineering practices and external courses via a Udemy subscription to support learning and continuous improvement.
  • Improve your German, or English, through Verbling language coaching and improve your physical and mental health via Urban Sports Club reduced price membership.

A bit about Yara
