Chemical/Biological Laboratory Technician - Biochemistry (m/f/d)

About the Unit

 

The Crop Nutrition and Biological Products R&D team is responsible for developing innovative solutions that enhance plant growth, improve nutrient efficiency, and increase resilience to abiotic stresses. With a global mandate, we lead and execute research projects that drive agronomic excellence and support the development of next-generation products for sustainable agriculture.

 

We are seeking a Chemical/Biological Laboratory Technician for Biochemistry to support our metabolomics research efforts. In this role, you will contribute to the identification and quantification of metabolites in plant and soil samples using advanced analytical techniques. You will work closely with scientists and other technicians in a collaborative laboratory environment, helping to generate high-quality data that supports product development and scientific discovery.

Responsibilities

 

You will support the whole analytical chain for metabolomic analyses by:

 

  • Preparing biological and environmental samples (e.g., plant tissue, soils) for metabolomic analysis using grinding, lyophilization, and liquid extraction.  
  • Performing LC/MS measurements (UHPLC-Orbitrap) for targeted and untargeted metabolite profiling.
  • Collaborating with our Analytical Biochemistry Scientist to develop and refine protocols for LC/MS-based metabolomics. Contribute to implementation of new analytical techniques and workflows.
  • Conducting routine maintenance of the LC/MS systems and sample preparation equipment to ensure accurate analytical outcomes.
  • Maintaining detailed records of methods, protocols, and results in accordance with SOPs.
  • Supporting safety documentation and compliance with health and safety officers.

Profile

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Degree as CTA, BTA or MTA or a Bachelor´s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in metabolite/enzyme/protein extraction from plant tissues.
  • Working experience with LC-MS or molecular biology techniques is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills paired with an autonomous way of working and a problem-solving mindset
  • Adaptability to dynamic lab and greenhouse research environments and team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills.
  • Good and secure computer skills (MS-Office, LIMS).
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.
