About the Unit
The Crop Nutrition and Biological Products R&D team is responsible for developing innovative solutions that enhance plant growth, improve nutrient efficiency, and increase resilience to abiotic stresses. With a global mandate, we lead and execute research projects that drive and support the development of next-generation products for sustainable agriculture.
We are seeking a Scientist – Metabolomics & Analytical Biochemistry to join our dynamic product R&D team. In this role, you will apply your expertise in UHPLC and mass spectrometry to coordinate and execute metabolomics projects focused on plant and soil systems. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of molecular biologists, physiologists, agronomists, and bioinformaticians to support product development and scientific discovery in crop nutrition and stress resilience.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain the LC/MS system (UHPLC- Orbitrap) for the analysis of plant and soil samples.
- Optimize sample preparation, analytical conditions, and data processing workflows for metabolite and compound analyses (un-/targeted).
- Support metabolomics projects from sample intake to data reporting.
- Perform data acquisition, processing, and interpretation using appropriate software tools.
- Coordinate and guide the daily work of a dedicated technician supporting the metabolomics lab workflow.
- Ensure accurate documentation of protocols, measurements, and maintenance activities.
- Advise internal stakeholders on the opportunities and limitations of metabolomic approaches and team-up for solution developments.
Profile
- M.Sc. in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related field; PhD is a plus.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in LC/MS analytics, including sample extraction, method development, and data analysis.
- Deep understanding of metabolomics in plant, soil and/or rhizosphere systems.
- Experienced with large-scale data processing.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn in a dynamic research environment.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.
