Inspection Engineer

About the Unit

YARA is present in Italy with two production plants.

Ferrara plant has two main production units, an Ammonia plant (600.000 ton/year) and an Urea plant (600.000 ton/year). The number of people employed is about 135.

Ravenna plant has two Nitric Acid plants (380.000 ton/year), one Nitrate fertilizer plant (380.000 ton/year), one Ammonium Nitrate solution plant (150.000ton/year) and one NPK plant (320.000 ton/year).

The number of people employed is about 150.


The Inspection Engineer:

  • Needs to have leadership skills that will promote the application of the methods within the inspection Department and more widely across Production and Maintenance Departments;
  • Needs to have knowledge of process plant, related damage mechanisms, Risk Based Inspection (RBI) concepts and basic failure analysis skills;
  • Needs to have the expertise to identify, analyze and suggest mitigations in the form of reports for problems related to pressure vessels integrity;
  • The position also carries specific responsibilities for ensuring that the team (internal or external) of NDT personnel deploys the techniques systematically and in accordance to recognized engineering practices;
  • Ensure and manage the standard periodical inspection for pressure vessels and piping interacting with the Authorized Inspection Body and following the Italian Authority Regulations;
  • The position also carries responsibilities in:
    • Contributing for quality control of new equipment and piping;
    • Representing the Inspection Department in meetings with vendors with the associated responsibility for actions and recommendations agreed with them.

The role includes assistance in Inspection Department cost control and compliance with Yara’s occupational health, quality, safety and environment procedures.

  • Bachelor degree in mechanical /materials/metallurgy engineering discipline;
  • Professional certifications in welding and in-service inspection of static equipment and piping;
  •  Proven experience in pressure vessels integrity management, inspection, knowledge of damage mechanisms, materials, RBI concepts and analysis of equipment failures preferably in an Oil &Gas, Fertilizers, petrochemical or related industry;
  • Advanced professional and technical expertise;
  •  Knowledge of international codes and practices on: materials, pressure vessels design and construction, welding, Risk Based Inspection, Fitness For Service, corrosion, inspection methods;
  • Good ability to operate standard computer software applications;
  • Italian mother tongue and good ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English;
  • Good report writing;
  • Medium leadership skills.


Additional Information

The Inspection Engineer will be based in Ferrara plant and will support also the Inspection Department of Ravenna plant.  This implys availability for business trips mainly  between Ferrara  and Ravenna plant every week.
