Material Handling Manager

About the Unit

Yara Glomfjord is located in Meløy municipality in the northern part of Norway, close to the Arctic Circle. The nearest city is Bodø, 145 km further north. In Meløy we live near high peaks, beautiful fjords and the glacier Svartisen.  This provides good opportunities for outdoor activities. The site has four production units: Two nitric acid plants, one NPK complex fertilizer plant and one calcium nitrate plant. The plant has its own harbor with installations for unloading of ammonia and storage, packaging and dispatch systems for fertilizer products. Yara Glomfjord focuses on continuous improvements so that our products can be produced and used in such a way that the environmental impact is minimized. The security of our employees and contractors is also paramount. 

 

The material handling departments is responsible for unloading raw materials, storages, bagging and bulking of finished products. In total approximately 1,3 million tonnes of goods are handled on the quey side. The department operates with a combimation of day-time, 2 shifts and 5 shifts. All activities are planned in cooperation with the logistics department.  

 

The position reports to Plant Manager and you will be a part of the local management team. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Material Handling department, including approx. 40 employees  
  • Continuously improve HESQ and operational standards. 

  • Explore “next level” of logistic performance, including focus on digital solutions, autonomy and automation 

  • Achieve operational and financial objectives in compliance with Yara safety, ethical, environmental and quality standards 

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders 

  • Set operational priorities and optimize resources to improve production and reliability 

  • Coach individuals, develop the organization and drive change processes 

Profile

  • MSc/BSc in relevant subject 

  • Proven People Management skills 

  • Minimum 5 years of operational experience from plant environment 

  • Motivated to lead, foster teamwork and coach employees 

  • Strong communication skills and hands on approach 

  • Fluent in English and one Scandinavian language
