Lead ITSS - Africa

We at Yara are part of a global network, collaborating to solve profitably and responsibly in some of the world's key challenges - resource scarcity, food insecurity, and environmental change.  The role of an ITSS Africa Lead is responsible for managing the ITSS team that provides onsite IT services to the Africa countries (South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Southern Cluster (Zambia, Mozambique, and Malawi) and Egypt). This position is crucial in ensuring that the company's technological and physical infrastructure supports its operations efficiently.

The ITSS Africa Lead will also be the Yara Regional Data Privacy Coordinator for Africa.

Responsibilities

This role ensures timely resolution, minimizing downtime, and maintaining high availability of IT services for the Africa sub region. They coordinate with global teams for firewalls, encryption, access controls, and ensuring compliance with security standards.

This role leads and manages a team of ITSS within Africa by delegating tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations as the team carries out the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure the smooth operation of hardware, software, networks, servers, and other infrastructure components. Regular maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting to keep systems running efficiently.
  • Assess the current and future needs of the organization's infrastructure, ensuring scalability and performance to accommodate growth and changes in demand.
  • Oversee the deployment and maintenance of hardware, software, networks, and other technological infrastructure components.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with other IT professionals, departments, and stakeholders to understand requirements, address issues, and implement effective solutions. Good communication skills are essential to convey technical information to non-technical individuals.
  • Maintaining accurate records, creating documentation, and generating reports regarding the infrastructure's performance, upgrades, and changes are vital for tracking and future planning.

Responsibilities Continued

  • Implementing strategies to recover systems and data in case of a disaster or system failure is an important part of the role of ensuring business continuity.
  • Identify potential risks to the infrastructure, such as security vulnerabilities, system failures, or capacity issues. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and disaster recovery plans.

The ITSS Africa Lead stays updated with technological advancements, evaluating new hardware, software, and methodologies to improve existing infrastructure and enhance efficiency.

In summary, this role is multifaceted, involving team leadership, technical expertise, tactical planning, maintenance, security, and collaboration to ensure a robust and efficient technological infrastructure and services supporting Yara Africa organization's operations.

Profile

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, with relevant experience in application software, application maintenance services, knowledge of hardware, networking, and computer support services. Long, relevant experience can compensate for lack of formal education
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure technologies such as networking, hardware, software, cloud services, security protocols, etc. in outsourced environments.
  • Proficiency in networking, system administration, virtualization, cloud computing, and infrastructure technologies.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices to maintain a secure infrastructure.
  • Knowledge and experience in SAP Business One is advantageous.
  • Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, ITIL processes etc., might be beneficial.
  • Professional attitude towards colleagues and external parties across different cultures and professions
