About the Unit
The Yara Pilbara Fertilisers' plant is one of the largest ammonia production sites in the world and we have also taken the ammonia process further downstream with the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant, a joint venture with Orica. Together with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara will also build a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia.

Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Laboratory Chemist to join our high-performing laboratory team.
Reporting to the Quality & Laboratory Superintendent, you will play a key role in ensuring the laboratory operates safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards while supporting continuous improvement across our operations.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on laboratory work with technical problem-solving, quality systems and process improvement in a collaborative industrial environment.
As the Laboratory Chemist, you'll maintain a strong presence in the laboratory, supporting daily analytical operations while driving improvements in laboratory methods, systems and equipment reliability, while working Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine laboratory analysis while maintaining a regular presence in the laboratory to support daily operations.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to Laboratory Technicians, ensuring analytical methods are carried out accurately and efficiently.
- Monitor, inspect and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to maintain reliable performance and minimise downtime.
- Conduct investigations on unknown samples, interpret analytical data and assist with resolving technical issues.
- Support the development, validation and continuous improvement of analytical methods and laboratory processes.
- Administer and maintain the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring data integrity and efficient sample management.
- Maintain laboratory documentation, quality systems, standard operating procedures and work instructions in line with GLP and ISO requirements.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration and asset management to ensure laboratory compliance and operational readiness.
- Assist with SAP requisitions, maintenance notifications, reservations and laboratory budget activities.
- Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental and Production teams to deliver accurate and timely analytical results.
- Promote a strong safety culture by participating in HSE initiatives, inspections, emergency response activities and continuous improvement programs.
- Contribute to maintaining high laboratory standards through quality assurance, housekeeping and compliance with site procedures.
Profile
You are a proactive and detail-oriented Laboratory Chemist with a passion for analytical science, continuous improvement and delivering high-quality results. You enjoy solving technical problems, collaborating with others and maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Essential:
- Bachelor of Science (Chemistry Major).
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an analytical laboratory.
- Strong knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and modern laboratory techniques.
- Excellent analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
- Fluent written and verbal English.
Desirable:
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Familiarity with SAP.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or ISO 17025.
- Experience working within a Major Hazard Facility or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience analysing water, soil, sediment, air or fertiliser samples.
- Exposure to analytical instrumentation such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Ion Chromatography (IC), ICP-OES, Karl Fischer, TOC, FT-IR, UV-Vis, Distillation, pH and Conductivity analysis.
