Planning Engineer (2 Year Fixed Term)

Our operations in Western Australia have created a downstream processing precinct in the resource rich Pilbara region. We have two facilities, using natural gas as the key input, located in an approved strategic industrial estate established by the Australian and Western Australian governments. The Yara Pilbara Fertilisers plant is one of the largest ammonia production sites in the world and we export ammonia to domestic and global markets from the nearby port of Dampier, which is mainly used in fertilisers to help feed the world. We have taken the ammonia process further downstream with the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant. A joint venture with Orica, the facility converts ammonia into a material crucial for the mines located throughout the Pilbara. Yara Pilbara and ENGIE will also build a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia. As part of the ARENA Renewable Hydrogen Deployment Funding Round, the Australian government is providing strong support for this project with a A$42.5 million grant. Scheduled for completion in 2023, the facility will be one of the world’s first industrial-scale renewable hydrogen production operations.

Looking for an exciting new challenge? Yara are seeking applications for their 2 year fixed-term role of Planning Engineer. Reporting to the Turnaround Manager, the Planning Engineer is responsible for supporting the Turnaround Team, across the Ammonia, Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate production plants, with turnaround planning, scheduling, execution and meeting objectives and goals. The position is responsible for detailed planning, work packaging management, work quality assurance plans and scheduling to support the stages associated with all turnaround maintenance jobs. 

The primary responsibilities include:
•    Develop turnaround goals and objectives with the team across the different sites and ensure that the Yara TOPS 2.09 work process (Navitrack – AP Networks) is followed to achieve targets.
•    Support the Lead Planner & Scheduler for scope definition and scope freeze.
•    Conduct “what if” scenarios to identify possible high-risk discoveries and plan mitigating actions.
•    Ensure adequate provision is made for spare parts/material availability and identify repair strategies in advance. 
•    Conduct technical reviews of all plant modification works as per applicable codes and Yara MOC (Management of Change) process.
•    Review and prepare method statements for identified major turnaround activities and conduct constructability reviews.
•    Participate in HAZOP & SIMOPS (Simultaneous Operations) reviews.
•    Ensure that Yara HSE procedures, codes, regulations, quality assurance and contractual requirements have been built and met during the planning and execution stages of the jobs.
•    Participate in real-time troubleshooting and analysis during the turnaround execution.
•    Drive and maintain continuous improvements with engineering standards, specifications and opportunities to optimise costs.
•    Develop management reports and presentations as required for turnaround updates.
•    Review compliance for complete work packages as per agreed standards such as the Inspection Test Plan (ITP), safety plans and quality assurance manuals.
•    Assist in the development and finalization of labour hours and its costing.
•    Work closely with all stakeholders to achieve the reliability goal, with the Inspection department for compliance to the statutory norms, and with turnaround stakeholders.
•    Define and document functional requirements for areas  such as plant maintenance, new constructions, ie. Management of Change, and Maintenance
•    Responsibly perform own work, minimising the impact of potential issues and threats.

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Process)
•    Minimum 5 years turnaround planning experience
•    Full Professional Membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia (MIEAust)
•    Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar industry (Petrochemical, Gas Processing or Oil Refining)
•    Minimum 2 years demonstrated supervisory experience
•    Understanding of Engineering and Statutory requirements for a Processing and or Chemical Plant
•    Knowledge of maintenance and shutdown management concepts and workflows
•    Experience with contractors and contract management
•    Experience with end to end turnarounds
•    Strong SAP skills are a distinct advantage
•    Intermediate/Advanced Microsoft Office suite experience
•    Advanced knowledge on Primavera P6
•    Demonstrate excellent leadership skills, collaboration and teamwork with all stakeholders.
•    Knowledge and experience in cost engineering and estimates
•    Fluent English is essential.
•    Australian/New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency. Temporary work visa holders are not eligible for this role.
