About the Unit
The Yara Pilbara Fertilisers' plant is one of the largest ammonia production sites in the world and we have also taken the ammonia process further downstream with the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant, a joint venture with Orica. Together with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara will also build a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia.

We are always looking for ambitious and curious-minded colleagues who are keen to make a difference, whilst residing in the nearby coastal city of Karratha, Western Australia, a key community in the region with a resource focus and a relaxed, friendly lifestyle. All Karratha-based roles offered are on a residential basis, with housing, relocation assistance, and location allowance provided.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Shift Superintendent, the Process Operator is responsible for; monitoring & operating the Utilities, Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate, and Bulk Handling areas. This includes reporting any hazards / risks in a safe, timely, and manner, after completion of the relevant competency based training and assessments. This applies both to field operation and central control room operations. The Process Operator may have opportunities in different areas of plant operations based on the needs of YPN operation, and completion of assessments in different areas of the plant. This role operates under a shift arrangement.
Requirements of the Process Operator role are as follows:
• Monitors and operates plant systems and equipment under various plant conditions and in various areas of the YPN site;
• Performs required operational adjustments in relevant plant areas in accordance with company policy and within Standard Operating Conditions and Limits (SOCL) to maintain a consistent standard of safety, productivity and reliability;
• Executes start up and shutdown of plant and equipment;
• Reports any faults or deviations and initiates notifications for plant maintenance work in accordance with plant productivity initiatives;
• Active commitment to conducting work in a safe manner and clear communication of safety hazards and risks;
• Prepares plant equipment for maintenance repairs and returns to service in a safe and efficient manner as per site isolation requirements;
• Maintains logs and records for all areas of the plant in an accurate and responsible manner in order to identify process deviations and have records available for future reference and troubleshooting;
• Demonstrates knowledge of Permit To Work (PTW) procedure and Lock Out / Tag Out procedure to ensure requirements are met for maintenance of plant systems and equipment;
• Participates in reviewing procedures, check lists and standard operating procedures (SOPs) etc;
• Active involvement in continuous improvement ideas in line with business requirements;
• Complies with Operator routines including the laboratory sampling/analysis;
• Takes timely and accurate readings as well as corrective action when necessary and communicates equipment problems to appropriate persons promptly;
• Makes accurate, timely entries in maintenance management system SAP;
• Demonstrates knowledge of process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams (PFD’s) and site layout / plot plans;
• Reports any near misses, accidents and breaches directly to the shift superintendent, and raises a report in Synergi (digital safety reporting tool);
• Perform active role in the site Emergency Response Team (ERT)
• Complies with all directions given by Yara in the course of the incumbent's duties.
Profile
Required:
• Commitment to safe working practices aligned with Yara’s Safe by Choice vision
• A Process Plant Operator Certificate III or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years within a position in the Chemical/petrochemical industry, preferably in a Nitric Acid or Ammonium Nitrate Plant environment
• Active work constructively in a team environment
• Competent usage of Excel Spreadsheets, Word Outlook and other Microsoft modules.
• Fluent written and verbal English is essential
