Technical Trainer / Turnaround Coordinator - YPF

About the Unit

The Yara Pilbara Fertilisers' plant is one of the largest ammonia production sites in the world and we have also taken the ammonia process further downstream with the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant, a joint venture with Orica. Together with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara will also build a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia.

Yara are seeking applications for the permanent role of Technical Trainer/TA Coordinator. Reporting to the Production Manager YPF, the Technical Trainer/TA Coordinator will be responsible for competency-based training and assessment of YPF operators in operating the Utilities, Ammonia, Storage and Ship Loading areas in a safe and efficient manner. They shall develop and implement the training and assessment program for the different areas of the plant operations, including integration of the plant simulator in the training and assessment program.  The Technical Trainer will also be responsible for ensuring all SOP’s and Work Instructions are reviewed, updated and the correct revision is available in document control for operator access.

Yara Pilbara is seeking someone to fulfil this opportunity on a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster. This 14 day Monday to Sunday work week on 12 hour day shift work patterns is followed by 2 weeks off work. This role is residential to Karratha.

There is no on call component for this position. This roster pattern will allow access to the full YPF crew, including weekends, to dedicate to driving training and development outcomes within the production team.

The Technical Trainer responsibilities will require the successful candidate to:

  • Prepare and implement training and assessment modules for the different competency levels of operating Plant Systems and Equipment under various plant conditions and in various areas of the YPF Plant;
  • Liaise with YPN Technical Trainers for any training synergies and strategies that can impact and improve YPF;
  • Train and assess operators to perform basic, routine, abnormal and advanced operations in all plant areas in accordance with company policy and within Standard Operating Conditions and Limits (SOCL) to maintain a consistent standard of safety, productivity and reliability;
  • Train and assess operators to executes start-up and shut-down of plant and equipment; to comply with operator routines including the laboratory sampling/analysis; to prepare plant equipment for maintenance repairs and returns to service in a safe and efficient manner as per Work Instruction;
  • Review and approve the operator check lists, SOPs, work instructions etc.;
  • Provide feedback on improvements to Permit to Work (PTW) procedure, Confined Space Entry procedures, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Sketches and Pressure Relief Devices (PRDs).
  • Assistance with Permit to Work (PTW) development and issuing for maintenance of plant systems and equipment;
  • Train and assess resources for PTW related training modules (PH, JO)
  • Provide first weeks of inductions for new operators/trainees and actively guide them

 

The TA Coordinator responsibilities will require the succession applicant to:

  • Develop and coordinate the planning, preparation and execution of plant Turnarounds and major Projects
  • Coordinate and manage the interface between operations, maintenance, and projects in accordance with scope execution during Turnarounds and major Projects
  • Coordinate the preparation of the plant for maintenance and project activities (i.e. PTW isolation plans and execution, cleaning, flushing and blowing activities) during Turnarounds and major Projects
  • Assists in preparation of the plant for maintenance and project activities 
  • Coordinate shutdown and turnaround lessons learnt workshops and develop and follow up action plans that capture the successes and improve on the shortfalls of our way of working
  • Assist in improvement initiatives/projects to ensure continuous improvements are executed, including but not limited to electronic work permit implementation, design reviews and HAZOPs, turnaround preparation etc.

Profile

  • Process Plant Operator Certificate IV, Chemical Engineering or equivalent  
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessing (or working towards completion) 
  • Minimum of 5 years within a position in the Chemical/petrochemical industry, preferably in an Ammonia Plant environment; 
  • Demonstrate consistent leadership behaviours; 
  • Understanding of the Supply Chain process; 
  • Advanced Team Member participation with a focus of team within a team environment; 
  • Competent usage of Microsoft Office modules; 
  • Knowledge of SAP or equivalent Computerized Management System related to the Department; 
  • Fluent English (verbal and written) is essential.
