Director of Data Privacy

About the Unit


As members of a central corporate function within Yara International, our lawyers are an integral part of the company’s many and varied global activities.  Yara is committed to protecting the privacy of its employees, customers, suppliers and business partners in accordance with the GDPR and other relevant regulations.  In order to do so, Yara has implemented the Yara Data Privacy Directives and Binding Corporate Rules, which set out the frame for how personal data shall be processed in Yara globally.

We are seeking an experienced lawyer to replace our outgoing Head of Data Privacy.  The Head of Data Privacy maintains a global perspective and coordinates all activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of Yara’s data privacy policies and procedures.  The successful candidate will be a key contributor to Yara’s global ambition to advance operational excellence, create scalable solutions and drive innovative growth.  This includes Yara’s continued efforts to become the leading digital crop nutrition company by building a large-scale farmer interaction platform.  

Although there will be an opportunity to gain experience and participate in other legal processes, the primary focus will be to provide high quality legal advice related to data privacy.

The lawyer will be a member of the global Yara corporate legal department.  The position will be based in Oslo.



  • Advise Yara of its obligations pursuant to the Yara Data Privacy Directives.
  • Maintain and develop Yara’s data privacy program in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assign and maintain an overview of data protection responsibilities within Yara, including the appointment of Regional Data Privacy Coordinators and Privacy Contacts. Maintain and coordinate the activities of the Data Privacy Network consisting of representatives from the business units and expert functions.
  • Raise awareness and train Yara employees who process personal data on behalf of Yara.
  • Lead processes regarding complaints, personal data access requests, and responses to personal data breaches.
  • Conduct controls and audits of data privacy compliance for review by Corporate Internal Audit.
  • Provide input about data privacy regulatory requirements for new business initiatives and product development activities.
  • Provide advice regarding data processing agreements and Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Serve as contact point for data protection authorities.
  • Provide regular privacy reports to executive management regarding data protection risks and compliance as described in the Yara Data Privacy Directives and Binding Corporate Rules.


  • High level of integrity necessary for handling confidential and sensitive data.
  • Master of Laws or equivalent law degree.
  • Knowledge and genuine interest regarding data privacy and IT processes, including information security, data governance and hosting.
  • Strong communication skills to explain relevant regulations and deliver training.
  • Leadership and management skills to proactively guide business in making strategic decisions within the relevant regulatory framework
