Head of Short Sea Chartering

About the Unit

 

Short Sea Chartering (SSC) is part of Yara Maritime Logistics (YML). The Short Sea Chartering team handles about 6,5 million ton dry cargo and 1,5 million ton of liquid cargo per annum within Europe and mainly in coaster sizes. SSC has a high level of long term contracts under a ‘core owner policy’ with communication predominantly conducted directly with the shipowners.
As Head of Short Sea Chartering, collaborate with the Yara plants, GPO, Direct Procurement, Indirect Procurement, EBS and European markets. Externally this position will collaborate with the ‘preferred’ carriers and brokers in the shipping market as well as market intelligence consultants. The position is based in Oslo and reports to the VP of Yara Maritime Logistics

Responsibilities

 

  • Establishing SSC’s European shipping strategy and contract portfolio management
  • Maintain and develop Yara’s relationship with key carriers in order to successfully manage long term requirement commitments and secure carrying capacity
  • Reporting market developments and outlook of the future market to stakeholders
  • Staying up to date on all aspects of Yara's business and act as a service provider towards Yara’s internal customers
  • Develop the close collaboration between YML and Yara Business Units and markets
  • Cost control and implementation of operational improvements
  • Support Yara with logistics projects
  • Analyse data related to the voyages extracted from the voyage management system (IMOS)
  • Drive continuous improvement across the department and with the customer base
  • Have good understanding of the latest maritime transport and emissions regulations and evaluate implications for Yara
     

Profile

 

To succeed in this role, we are looking for a person who has a deep understanding and experience of the European shipping market and procurement activities. Has a well established network within the European short sea shipowning community, is able to act proactively and be solution driven. Knowledge of Yara’s business model and trade patterns is an advantage

 

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in the European short sea market for both dry and liquid 
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Fluent in English which is the working language. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage
  • Ability to build alliances with internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage and develop relationships with our network of shipowners
  • Analytical, agile, customer oriented professional with high integrity
  • Ability to think strategically and act tactically
  • Drive processes and implement improvements
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team 
  • Flexible mindset and able to work under pressure in fast paced environment and solving adhoc issues

Travel within Europe will be required for the position.
