Research Technician
About the Unit
The Research Technician’s main purpose is to assist the Research Agronomist with a combination of tasks, including fieldwork, research, and data analysis related to crop production and agricultural practices. The Research Technician conducts local trails and demonstrations and learns knowledge of a wide range of crops in their local area or region.
Responsibilities
- Field Data Collection
- Conduct field experiments and trials to gather data on crop performance, soil conditions, and pest management.
- Implement and monitor agronomic practices such as planting, fertilizing, irrigation, and harvesting.
- Irrigation scheduling and record and monitor new irrigation model results to evaluate success with different intensive crops.
- Soil Sampling and Analysis
- Collect soil samples for laboratory analysis to assess nutrient levels, pH, and other soil properties.
- Execute fertilization recommendations and ensure overall tidiness of trial.
- Crop Monitoring
- Monitor crop health and growth throughout the growing season.
- Identify and diagnose pest and disease issues, and recommend appropriate control measures.
- Equipment Operation
- Operate and maintain agricultural equipment used in field trials, such as planters, sprayers, and harvesters.
- Data Management and Collaboration
- Record and organize data collected from field experiments.
- Assist in data analysis and prepare reports for agronomists and researchers.
- Work closely with agronomists, researchers, and other team members to plan and execute field trials.
- Communicate findings and observations effectively within the team.

f.Technology Integration
- Stay updated on the latest agronomic technologies and tools.
- Utilize technology, such as GIS and precision agriculture tools, for efficient data collection and analysis
g. Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
- Participate in training programs related to safety and compliance.
Qualifications and Experience
- B.Sc. Agricultural degree with Agronomy, Soil Science, or a related field.
- GIS knowledge and experience with remote sensing tools and equipment.
- Hands-on experience in agriculture or field research.
- Knowledge of crop management practices, soil science, pest- and disease identification, as well as chemical application.
- Ability to operate and maintain agricultural equipment.
- Strong organizational and data management skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with computer software for data analysis and reporting.
- Willingness to work outdoors and travel as required.
- Valid driving license
