About the Unit

The Yara Pilbara Fertilisers' plant is one of the largest ammonia production sites in the world and we have also taken the ammonia process further downstream with the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant, a joint venture with Orica. Together with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara will also build a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia.

Responsibilities

Looking for an exciting new challenge? Yara are seeking applications for their permanent full-time role of Purchasing Officer. Reporting to the Purchasing Superintendent, the Purchasing Officer is responsible for ensuring goods and services are procured to the satisfaction of corporate and operational requirements in accordance with Yara policies and procedures.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Checking to ensure appropriate authorisation on Purchase Requisitions, and other relevant internal and external documents; 
  • Requesting quotations, evaluating bids, negotiating and evaluating proposals fromBusiness Partners;   
  • Negotiating and the award of a variety of Purchase and Service Orders including: Spare Parts and Consumable orders; Capital Equipment orders; Consultancy Agreements; Rental or Lease Agreements or Logistics.Assist with material Frame Agreement development and related activities;  
  • Organise and oversee simple and complex logistics arrangements for road, air and sea freight movements; 
  • Checking to ensure that RFQ summaries and purchase order documents are accurate and professionally prepared – particularly those requiring higher authority to commit funds; 
  • Effectively utilising computerised Purchasing and Materials Management systems to enhance individual performance and accuracy for the benefit of all users; 
  • Proactive expediting of department Purchase Orders; 
  • Assist with invoice queries to ensure prompt payment to vendors; 
  • Cooperating with staff of user departments so that realistic quality control and supply schedules are established and maintained; 
  • Generating annual cost savings resulting from effective personal and team initiatives and strategies during the course of committing company funds; 
  • To effectively utilise the computerised procurement and materials management systems, with specific emphasis on contractor/supplier performance, stock control and cost reduction.

Profile

Required:

  • Certificate Procurement / Supply Management Front Line Management or similar 
  • Minimum of 5 years within a procurement and supply environment;   
  • Possess a high level of communication skills - verbal and written;  
  • Understanding of the Supply Chain process; 
  • Team Member participation with a focus of team within a team environment; 
  • Competent usage of Excel Spreadsheets, Word Outlook and other M/S modules. 
  • The incumbent is required to be able to analyse and evaluate purchasing problems, arriving at and drawing conclusion in accordance with the Procurement Department policies and procedures;  
  • Problems may be encountered with resource allocation priorities, time constraints, Contracts, Vendor performance, payment release, transport and logistics.   
  • Experience in oil and gas, chemical processing or Mining and Manufacturing processes; 
  • Background relevant to commerce and commercial activities including Procurement Law; 
  • Basic understanding of Account Processing and IT systems 
  • Fluent verbal and written English is essential.
  • Australian/New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency. Temporary work visa holders are not eligible for this role.
