VAT Regional Expert

What will your main responsibilities be?
In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of VAT compliance and reporting for the Benelux entities. You will act as a subject matter expert, ensuring accuracy, compliance with legislation, and continuous improvement of VAT-related processes, while working closely with internal stakeholders and global teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking full, independent ownership of the accurate preparation and submission of VAT returns for the Benelux countries
- Independently preparing and submitting EC Sales Lists for the Benelux
- Reconciling VAT balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, investigating discrepancies and preparing the required journal entries
- Monitoring VAT legislative and regulatory changes in the Benelux, assessing their impact on the business, and collaborating with the VAT team to ensure timely and compliant implementation
- Supporting the Tax Technology team on project-based work, including process improvements and VAT reporting requirements for IT systems
- Providing training, mentorship, and guidance to the business on VAT-related matters
- Actively promoting collaboration, standardization, and continuous improvement across VAT processes and controls
- Supporting and contributing to various VAT-related projects, such as:
- Compliance checklists
- Real-time reporting initiatives
- VAT accounts procedures
- E-invoicing implementations
- Setting up and further developing VAT processes and policies, including the transition from outsourced activities to a fully in-house, well-documented and continuously updated setup
- Ensuring all activities are performed in line with Yara’s global Ethics & Compliance policies, as well as Health, Safety and Security principles, relevant legislation, and Yara’s golden rules
Who are you?
We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive VAT professional who combines strong technical expertise with a hands-on mindset. You are comfortable working independently, take ownership of your responsibilities, and enjoy collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders across the organization.
The ideal candidate brings the following qualifications and competencies:
- A Master’s degree in Finance or Tax, with a strong focus on Finance and/or Accounting
- Solid knowledge of VAT formalities and legislation applicable in the Benelux countries
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and related financial procedures
- Practical, advanced experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP
- A hands-on mentality combined with a proactive, solution-oriented attitude
- The ability to use personal judgement and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles
- Strong communication skills, both externally (e.g. liaising with tax authorities) and internally (working with key stakeholders across the business)
- An enthusiastic, flexible and collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic environment
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and a strong result-oriented mindset
- Working knowledge of at least one additional language: Dutch, French or German
